Multi-tasking (BBT)

btt button
Do you multi-task when you read? Do other things like stirring things on the stove, brushing your teeth, watching television, knitting, walking, et cetera? Or is it just me, and you sit and do nothing but focus on what you’re reading? (Or, if you do both, why, when, and which do you prefer?)

I do both, actually. I prefer to sit and calmly read out my book from start to finish, but depending on what kind of book--say, a mystery, I cannot put it down until I know "whodunnit" so I will walk around and do things like brushing teeth, dusting, cleaning the table or cleaning the windows. If I can just walk around and hold things for other people (a dustpan, a shopping bag, etc) then I'll do that instead. I'm used to walking and reading, but would rather sit down and enjoy the read.

I'll only multi-task if I have to and it doesn't involve walking - too clumsy.

I do both too. I also find that I need to multitask to get much reading done at all. Also, some things, like brushing my teeth, are just too boring to do without a book. http://mostraum.wordpress.com/2011/03/10/booking-through-thursday-multitasking/

When I'm reading a book, I'm too involved to multi-task. I read during the commercials, and Brad has to tell me sometimes that the show is still on. My mind "goes away" to another world, time and/or place, so multi-tasking would be impossible...seeing how I'm not here to do anything else. ;)

I'm the same way. Most of the time, I'll sit down and focus on a book. But if it's just a textbook or something like that, I'll multitask.
